only people that matters are the players, and 90% want to keep it. Anyone who has played hockey, wants to keep it. I played junior back in the day and was not a tough guy by any means, but without fighting it will turn into a circus. I don't care how much you watch hockey, if you haven't played at a level where fighting is a part of it, you don't get it.

I've heard 'well the NFL is rough and there's no fighting'. There is also out of bounds and the qb can slide to avoid hitting. Crosby can't do that. All the politically correct news castors who say 'get rid of fighting' don't watch the NHL, and won't watch it even if you do get rid of it. It's a part of the game and always will be.

Yzerman's a hypocrite. Especially when he had Bob Probert and Joey Kocer backing him up, in his glory days. It's just more of the progressive crowd out there, trying to impose their Utopian view of the world on everyone else. They've done it in politics, for 40 years and see where that's got our governments and criminal justice system. Take fighting out of the game, you gut the game and half the fans will just give up on it, like they did with Major League Baseball, when they let things get out of hand. I wonder how the tough guys feel about going out and digging ditches, for 1/20th of what they make being enforcers in the NHL.

From a players perspective I COMPLETELY agree, but these players are ultimately employees to the owners, and they by and large how a lot of day when it comes to protecting their investments.

Fighting off the faceoff between two goons is kind of pointless.
A good example of fighting was between Kyle Okposo and Niskinin in the playoffs this year; a spur of the moment thing not between two goons

If I'm an owner, I'm thinking about the problem with attendance when fighting gets eliminated by the social justice crowd.

Do you think so? Often, it can change the direction of a game, by giving the winning combatant's team a lift.

You think people buy tickets to see fights? On most teams the enforceres hardly play in a season...

Like fighting or not, the NHL is toeing a dangerous line when it comes to liability, and much like the NFL case settle on concussion risks not being disclosed, the NHL could wind up with a simlar class action lawsuit.

The mounting evidence of CTE, or more simply put degenertive brain disorder, that was found in the brains of Probet and Boogaard are not good for the NHL. It's espcially not good because even with that evidence mounting, they haven't done a lot to mitigate the risks.

Fighting may very well end up just being sued out of the game.

there's no evidence that a lot of strategies work /don't work, doesn't mean it isn't true.

Funny.......when a fight breaks out, I don't see people leaving and never coming back. Team toughness wins games. Fighting and intimidation is part of it. Your Sens beat the Habs, because you where tougher then them and intimidated them, in the playoffs. Fighting is part of the fabric of the game. Take it out, then it becomes allot like soccer. Divers, cheapshot artists and meh play. Forget it! Take fighting out of the game, I'll just not watch it anymore and I believe that I'm in the vast majority on this.

As much as I like Yzerman and respect him I have to disagree. These "goons" aren't being forced to fight, this is what they are paid for. Like it or not the chose to do it.

Ah well, if they take it out I won't have to discuss it with morons on the internet.

Soccer isn't the most popular sport on the planet or anything.

What? Because someone disagrees with you, they're a moron? Maybe we on the pro fighting side love the game of hockey and we don't want it bastardized anymore. Shootouts, 3 point games, uneven conferences, unlimited revenue sharing, the game is being changed for the worse. Lose fighting and the game will never be the same.

Soccer is less about sport and more about soap operas and over acting.
